VoltGarage

VoltGarage is a charging and cost log for electric cars on Android: it records every charge, at home, at work or at a public station, keeps each one as its own layer in the battery and works out what the driver pays per kilometre.

What it does

  • Records every charge with its price and keeps it as a separate layer in the battery; driving uses the oldest energy first, so each trip is costed at the price of the energy it actually used.
  • Live charge tracking with a finish-time estimate and a notification, and car detection through the car’s Bluetooth.
  • A world charging station map from OpenStreetMap and Open Charge Map data, with prices entered by drivers in local currency; new stations appear for everyone once ten different people confirm them.
  • Expense and reminder log, trip cost, CSV import from Drivvo and Fuelio, and country average prices for home electricity and petrol.
  • The website compares a month of charging with a petrol car and keeps a dated table of public charging prices in Turkey, with each network’s own source page.

How it works

  • No account: entries stay on the phone and are backed up over an encrypted connection to a server in the European Union; a recovery code moves them to a new phone.
  • Free version: one car, all entries kept, the last three months shown in lists, with ads. Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription through Google Play that removes ads and adds more cars, full history and reports. Exporting entries is always free.

Who it is for

Electric car drivers who want to know what their charging really costs, split between home and public charging, without keeping a spreadsheet.

Limits

  • Android only, and not on Google Play yet.
  • Cost per kilometre is a calculation from the prices and charges the driver enters; it is only as accurate as those entries.
