Android app privacy notice

Spiralens — Privacy Policy

Effective date: 10 October 2026

This policy explains how the Android camera app Spiralens (package com.spiralens.app) accesses, uses, stores, and shares information. It applies only to Spiralens. Use of this website is covered by our website privacy policy.

1. Who We Are

Spiralens is published by OWL APP LTD (Company No. 16945604), a company registered in England and Wales with its registered office in London, United Kingdom. Contact us at contact@owl-app.com.

2. Camera, Photos, and Sensors

Camera frames, selected image details, and motion measurements are processed on your device. Camera access is optional and is used only when you open the camera. Spiralens does not upload camera frames or photos and does not identify people. For people photos it finds where faces are in the frame, on your device, to follow the eye nearest the camera; this face information is not stored or sent. Accelerometer and gyroscope readings help measure phone level and follow a selected image detail. They are kept in memory while the camera is active and are never sent.

Camera photos and measurement notes are kept in Spiralens at full quality until you choose Save to gallery, which creates a separate copy in Pictures/Spiralens. A photo you select from your gallery is read from its original location and is not changed. Photos kept only in Spiralens are removed when you uninstall the app; gallery copies remain. App backup is disabled.

In the free version, photos saved to your gallery and photos you share carry the Spiralens mark, repeated faintly across the picture. Photos shown inside the app carry the same mark, and the photo screens cannot be captured with a screenshot. The mark is added on your device; Spiralens does not send your photos anywhere itself. The unmarked original stays in Spiralens' own storage on your phone.

3. Anonymous Usage Statistics and Crash Reports

Unless you turn them off in About → Anonymous usage statistics, Spiralens sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to OWL APP. This is explained on a single screen the first time you open the app; using the app never depends on it.

  • What is sent: counts from one use of the app, such as how long it took to reach the green confirmation, how many photos were taken, how often the level sensor and tracking worked, which guides and subjects were chosen and which edits were saved; the app version, Android version, phone maker and model, and app language; a coarse range of days since the app was first opened. For a crash: the error type and where in Spiralens code it happened, never the error message.
  • What is never sent to OWL APP: photos, image details, camera frames, face information, tap positions, location, contacts, account or advertising identifiers, or any installation number. Records cannot be linked to you or to each other.
  • When and where: only while the app is open, at most about once a day, over HTTPS to data.owl-app.com, a Cloudflare service operated for OWL APP LTD. Records are stored in Cloudflare's European Union data location without IP addresses and deleted after 90 days.
  • Why: to find which phones and steps cause problems and to fix crashes.
  • Turning it off deletes the records still waiting on your phone and stops collection.

4. Advertising and Consent (Free Version)

The free version of Spiralens shows ads provided by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK: a banner on screens other than the camera, a full-screen ad when a new photo opens for review, a short video you choose to watch before a photo is saved to the gallery, an ad when the app opens, and, after three minutes without one, a full-screen ad at the next screen change. The camera screen never shows ads, and two full-screen ads are at least 45 seconds apart.

Google states that the Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares the device IP address, which may be used to estimate general location; product interactions such as app launches, taps, and video views; SDK and app diagnostic information; Android advertising ID; app set ID; and, where applicable, other identifiers related to accounts signed in on the device. Google uses this information for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention, and it is encrypted in transit. This processing is governed by Google's advertising privacy information and the Google Privacy Policy. OWL APP sees only aggregate ad performance and revenue reports in AdMob and does not receive raw advertising identifiers.

Spiralens uses Google's User Messaging Platform to ask for consent where the law requires it, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, before ads are requested. You can change your choice later in the app's About screen. Depending on your choice and region, ads may be personalized, non-personalized, or limited. You can also reset or delete the Android advertising ID in Android settings.

5. Purchases

A one-time purchase removes ads, the video before saving and the mark on photos. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play; OWL APP does not receive your card details. Spiralens checks with Google Play whether the purchase is active on your device. To stop fake purchases, the app also sends the purchase code that Google Play gives your phone once to OWL APP's server (data.owl-app.com, run on Cloudflare), which asks Google whether the purchase is real and answers only "valid", "invalid" or "pending". The server stores nothing and keeps no request logs. Google Play shares order information, such as the order number, product, price, and country, with OWL APP for accounting, refunds, and support, as described in the Google Payments Privacy Notice.

6. What Spiralens Does Not Do

  • It has no account and does not ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
  • It does not use location, the microphone, or contacts.
  • It never uploads your photos.
  • OWL APP does not sell personal data.
  • It does not use Google Analytics, Firebase, or other publisher-operated analytics SDKs.

7. Retention and Deletion

Photos, edits, settings, and the waiting queue of anonymous records stay on your device until you delete them, clear Spiralens's app data, or uninstall the app. Anonymous records received by OWL APP are deleted after 90 days; because they carry no identifier, they cannot be found or deleted per person earlier. Google controls the retention of data processed by Google Mobile Ads, the User Messaging Platform, and Google Play.

8. Children

Spiralens is not directed to children under 13. It does not ask for age or contact details, and OWL APP does not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian with a concern may contact us.

9. Your Rights and Changes

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to processing of personal data, and to complain to a data protection authority; in the United Kingdom this is the Information Commissioner's Office. For requests concerning OWL APP, email contact@owl-app.com. Requests concerning Google-held data are handled through Google's account and privacy tools. If this policy changes, the effective date above is updated.
